Games
- Windows Central: You can now play GTA Vice City directly in your web browser — no downloads, no installs, just instant nostalgia
Linux
- NERDS.xyz: Rhino Linux 2025.4 arrives: Just thought it might be a fun to play around with a new Linux distribution.
Media
- GitHub: maxdorninger / MediaManager: “A modern selfhosted media management system for your media library”
- Maybe see about an arr replacement, along with Seer?
- GitHub: navidrome / navidrome: “🎧☁️ Your Personal Streaming Service”
- I’ve heard the name before, & just because i do have a ton of music that this might be an interesting tool to use with.
- Lifehacker: Six Ways You Can Use an Old Chromecast (Beyond Streaming Movies and Shows)
- Keep an eye on your property
- Set up a second screen wirelessly
- Stream music, podcasts, and audiobooks
- Play some simple games
- Display photos and wallpapers
- Keep in touch
Penetration Testing
- I had pre-ordered the WiFi Pineapple Pager while at DEF CON & it was just delivered this week… so this weekend I’ll be playing around with that & taking a look at the Hak5 repositories:
- Hackster.io: The Hak5 WiFi Pineapple Pager Is a Hacker’s Pentesting Dream Tool (Probably)
- GitHub: hak5 / wifipineapplepager: “Collection of WiFi Pineapple Pager Repositories”
- GitHub: hak5 / wifipineapplepager-themes: “The Official WiFi Pineapple Pager Theme Repository”
- GitHub: hak5 / wifipineapplepager-ringtones: “The Official WiFi Pineapple Pager Ringtone Repository”
- GitHub: hak5 / wifipineapplepager-payloads: “The Official WiFi Pineapple Pager Payload Repository”
Miscellaneous
- GitHub: n8n-io / n8n: “Fair-code workflow automation platform with native AI capabilities. Combine visual building with custom code, self-host or cloud, 400+ integrations.”
- I’ve always kept this in mind, but still haven’t come up with a use for the automation platform.
- GitHub: gamosoft / NoteDiscovery: “Your Self-Hosted Knowledge Base”
- Ethan Sholly mentioned this one ( selfh.st: My Favorite Self-Hosted Apps Launched in 2025 ) & heard it compared to Obsidian, so i wanted to add this to the list of note tools I’ve looked at or have running (i.e.: flatnotes, Glass Keep, Many Notes, Memos, Note Mark).
- I was using SilverBullet for a while, but wasn’t a huge fan of the interface \ workflow, so I gave up on that one at least for now.

- GitHub: TriliumNext / Trilium: “Build your personal knowledge base with Trilium Notes”
- I’ve looked at Trilium a few times, but never stuck with it. Maybe it’s one of those times I try it again.
- GitHub: clemcer / loggifly: “Get Alerts from your Docker Container Logs”
- Maybe someting to see if it would be useful for specific errors in Docker logs.
- Postgresus: “Postgresus is a free, open source and self-hosted tool to backup PostgreSQL. Make backups with different storages (S3, Google Drive, FTP, etc.) and notifications about progress (Slack, Discord, Telegram, etc.)”
- Since more than a few of my containers use Postgres databases, thought this would be good to look into for backups.
- Poznote: “Poznote is a lightweight yet powerful web app for taking notes.”
- Another note app to try.
- GitHub: nicotsx / zerobyte: “Backup automation for self-hosters”
- I have been trying to get Restic configured on my hosts, so just seeing the tool is based on that, it caught my interest.
- Elena Rossini: A newbie’s guide to self-hosting with YunoHost. Part 2: installation & setup
- It’s FOSS: What Google Photos? Self-Hosting Photo Storage with PhotoPrism Using Docker in My Homelab
- I did try PhotoPrism a few years ago, but ended up going with Immich. Maybe I’ll take another look.
- Easier Than Nano! Fresh is a ‘Fresh’ New Rust-based Terminal Editor for Linux
- I usually stuck with
- XDA Developers: Sendspin is ESPHome’s answer to Sonos-style multi-room audio
- Docker Blog: A Safer Container Ecosystem with Docker: Free Docker Hardened Images
- I wonder if we’ll start to see some more containers use this as a base, so thought it would be interesting to read into.
selh.st: Self-Host Weekly #150: Watchtower No More, by Ethan Sholly
- I guess my timing of moving to Komodo from Portainer with Watchtower was pretty good with Watchtower now being archived…
- Ethan also linked to his Self-Hosted Apps and Alternatives page for anyone looking for Watchtower replacements.
- GitHub: gamosoft / NoteDiscovery: " Your Self-Hosted Knowledge Base"
- I installed this last week or earlier this week & wanted to see how i liked it. I believe someone mentioned it as an open source Obsidian (or using that for influence) so i am giving it a try. For now I’m mostly storing some config files & templates, but it seems nice so far.
- Poznote: “Poznote is a lightweight yet powerful web app for taking notes.”
- I have this listed above, but since it’s on the Self-Host Weekly, it makes me want to look into it more.
- GitHub: chrisbenincasa / tunarr: “Create a classic TV experience using your own media - IPTV backed by Plex/Jellyfin/Emby”
- I thought this looked interesting with the different media i have in Plex & Jellyfin.
- GitHub: Mahcks / blockbusterr: “Automatically add trending, popular, and highly-rated movies and TV shows from Trakt.tv to your Radarr and Sonarr instances.”
- Seemed interesting. I at least wanted to dig into it.
- GitHub: Kellojo / Modular-Homelab-Dashboard: “Allows you to quickly setup a dashboard/entry point for your homelab. It provides a customizable interface allowing you to display various metrics, system statuses, and other information from your homelab services.”
- I am still using Homepage but wanted to look at this.
- GitHub: rthaines211 / MylarMobile: “Mylar3 Mobile PWA”
- Not that i have looked at my Mylar3 container in a while, but maybe some motivation to check \ work on that.
- GitHub: connorgallopo / Tracearr: “Tracearr is a streaming access manager for Plex, Jellyfin and Emby servers. It answers the question every server owner eventually asks: “Who’s actually using my server, and are they sharing their login?””
- I must have thought this was for something else when I saved it, because i already know no one with access really connects to my Plex =]
- GitHub: rhizomatics / updates2mqtt: “Automated checks and optional upgrades of packages via MQTT with Home Assistant compatibility”
- I need to get back into Meshtastic, MQTT, & leveraging it with Home Assistant. Hopefully over the holidays i will get some time.
- GitHub: julienhmmt / vcv: “VaultCertsViewer is a Go application to list and manage certs in Vault, the easiest possible for SRE.”
- I’m still using & happy with Step-CA but wouldn’t mind something that’s a little easier to manage certs (not that Step-CA is bad at all).
- GitHub: getmydia / mydia: “Your personal media companion, built with Phoenix LiveView”
- I believe this is an alternative to Plex or Jellyfin.
- GitHub: scanopy/scanopy: “Clean network diagrams. One-time setup, zero upkeep.”
- It would be very nice to have a network overview without writing out or trying to maintain a text or spreadsheet with all the details…
