Docker

  • Dolce Documentation: Configuration
  • GitHub: TheInfamousToTo /PiHoleVault: “PiHoleVault provides a comprehensive, secure, and visually appealing solution to manage Pi‑hole backups. It combines automation, security, community analytics, and modern UI to offer a seamless experience. Whether you’re a casual user or managing multiple Pi‑holes, this tool simplifies setup and ongoing maintenance.”

Hardware

  • Hack-a-Day: Hands On: The Hacker Pager
    • This is just another piece of hardware that i really don’t need, but am curious about it & may see how many are on-hand at DEF CON next week.

IT Security:

Miscellaneous

  • Engadget: Jack Dorsey’s Bluetooth messaging app is now on the App Store
  • Ethan Sholly @ selfh.st: Self-Host Weekly (1 August 2025)
    • GitHub: gameyfin / gameyfin: “Manage your video games.”
      • I’ve come across game management platforms before, but always passed them up. Now that I’m seeing ones over & over & stopping to think about it, maybe it is worth looking into some of these & see how they run.
    • xn–gckvb8fzb.com/giving-up-on-element-and-matrixorg/
    • Building the Open Home: You don’t own it if they can break it
      • Ring getting mentioned again. It was nice to see they were moving away from just being a surveillance system, but i guess the original founder doesn’t feel the same way: “These cameras store your recordings in the cloud, on servers that Ring controls. Ring just pulls up all this user data onto its services, and once there, it treats this data like its own, giving it to whoever it wants. "
      • Belkin: I can’t remember if i did have any Wemo home devices, but seeing that they’re all going to be useless early next year anyway, it just makes me want to really sit down & build out HomeAssistant or any other project that at least gives some local control of devices.
    • GitHub: booklore-app / BookLore: “BookLore is a self-hosted app for managing and reading books & comics (PDF, EPUB, CBZ) with metadata editing, OPDS, reading progress, and multi-user support.”
      • I’m pretty sure I set this up, but didn’t get too far with it. It is time i revisted it.
    • GitHub: crocodilestick / Calibre-Web-Automated: “Calibre-Web but automated and with Calibre features! Fully automate and simplify your eBook set up!”
      • Another service I’m running locally that i should either properly configure or just retire.
    • GitHub: immich-app / immich:High performance self-hosted photo and video management solution.”
      • selfh.st mentioned a new docker-compose.yml file for Immich, so I’ll have to compare that to my existing one & see if any changes are needed.
    • GitHub: jelliott2021 / DockerWakeUp: “An intelligent Docker container management system that automatically starts containers on-demand when accessed, stops idle containers to save resources, and generates NGINX configurations for seamless reverse proxy setup”
      • This actually doesn’t seem to be what i thought it was when i started digging into it. I thought it was a way to manually start & stop containers, which would be useful now that I got Dolce working, so i can more easily restart containers that have stopped.
    • GitHub: remvze / haus: “🏡 A dead-simple online workstation.”
      • The description sounded interesting so i thought i could try this out.
    • GitHub: jeffcaldwellca / mkcertWeb: “Web based user interface for mkcert CLI internal CA”
      • I do have a routine down now for using my Step-CA container, but if there is anything to make management a little easier, i’m definitely interested.
