Meshtastic \ LoRa GitHub: meshtastic / device-ui: Map Tile Starter-Kit: “This folder contains a basic set of map tiles in different styles for Meshtastic UI enabled devices with SD card support. I have a 128GB SD card, so plenty of room for maps \ etc on there. I used map-tile-downloader to pull down some tiles, but I may have done something wrong because it’s not actually being displayed on my device. Hardware Framework: Currently just using a Pi for general usage, but have my gaming PC for more intense work. But after seeing a few people at DEFCON with Framework laptops, i wanted to look at this again. Especially now that they have a graphics module with the Framework 16 laptop. ClockworkPi Devices I had purchased a CM5 to put into either my DevTerm or uConsole, but didn’t realize the ClockworkPi core doesn’t let me just swap it out. I need to get the RPI CM4 Adapter for DevTerm & CPI v3.14, which should take the CM5 as well.. guess i’ll find that part out too. The above made me remember to actually pick my PicoCalc back up to play with. I want to revisit JBlanked’s Picoware OS, since I had just a few issues with it earlier, but now see there’s a v.1.3.0 that was released a few days ago. Hopefully this will fix the issues I was having. ClockworkPi Forum: Picoware (Open-Source Custom Firmware) Containers (Podman, Docker, etc) A friend was trying to get BookStack working with Podman but was running into some issues. It made me want to re-look at Podman, just to see if I would move from Docker. Since I used this week to turn back on some of my Raspberry Pi’s, I can easily get Podman on one of them to test with. Meshtastic \ LoRa After reading about some HackerPager users swapping the battery for a larger one, I figured I’d try to do the same. Tomorrow i should have a 3000mAh battery I can use to replace the included 1100mAh. I think I’ve been getting a little less than a day on a charge (maybe less), so this should hopefully help with that =] Since i was already purchasing the battery, I saw the MakerFocus ESP32 LoRa V3 Development Board available for pretty cheap, & decided to add that to the order so I can at least have 2 LoRa nodes, to play around a bit. Haven’t had luck finding other nodes in my area yet… I’m hoping that will change. Photography Kickstarter: YASHICA FX-D: Your First Digital Film Simulation Camera: My dad was VERY into photography, especially film, so when I saw this project I wanted to back it for that reason. I’ve also been trying to get into a bit of photography myself. I don’t recall if I ordered the 100 or 300 version, but guess i will find out soon, once shipping starts for the camera. Raspberry Pi I’m starting to put some of my Pi’s back online that i never set back up after the move. That had me trying to get my Arducam 16MP working with my RasPi4 & I’m not sure if I needed to be using Raspbian over Ubuntu, but I was finally able to get it working. Arducam: Quick Start Guide: Use rpicam to access Arducam Pivariety Camera I didn’t realize i didn’t have a RasPi5 adapter with the increased voltage, so i found out the hard way that it won’t boot off USB devices unless the config.txt is modified. Instead of running off MicroSD cards, I prefer to use a USB external SSD for my Pi’s, so I don’t have to worry about the cards burning out. Once I did get the proper adapter, modified the config.txt to try & get my camera working here, it takes AGES to start back up… i was about to wipe the device & start from scratch before testing one more time & the system was back up. With both of these Pi’s + cameras working again, I got Syncthing setup on both & created a new function \ alias there, to make taking photos easier \ quicker. When I run rpicam-photo it will take the photo & drop it into a specific Syncthing folder, so that all my devices get the photos, no need to manually transfer off the Pi’s. selfh.st: Self-Host Weekly (22 August 2025) Projects from selfh.st that i want to look into. GitHub: rommapp / romm: “A beautiful, powerful, self-hosted rom manager and player.” I keep putting this on my list to look at & never get back to it… GitHub: streamyfin / streamyfin: “A Jellyfin client built with Expo” I’m trying to use my Jellyfin setup more than my Plex, so I’ve been trying out different apps i come across. GitHub: LukeGus / Termix: “Termix is a web-based server management platform with SSH terminal, tunneling, and file editing capabilities.” Maybe something to help centralize management of my devices across the network. GitHub: cogwheel0 / conduit: “Native mobile client for Open‑WebUI. Chat with your self‑hosted AI.” I’m pretty sure I have Open-WebUI running somewhere… dedicated app would be nice to play with. GitHub: fccview / cronmaster: “Cron management made easy” As I’m setting up additional backup jobs for files on my network, using cron more & more, so this jumped out at me. GitHub: App Store Preview: Notify: Website Monitoring: “Monitor Website Changes - Directly From Your iPhone” I’m thinking about using this even for my internal pages, just to see if it would notify me if something went down. Parachute Backup Mobile: “Set-and-forget iCloud backup companion for iOS” I definitely want to look at this if it’s an easy iCloud replacement. /r/selfhosted: Parachute Backup for Mobile is here, allows you to backup your entire iCloud Drive & iCloud Photo library to your own storage, NAS, network drives, external drives, etc. I’m here to answer any questions you may have! GitHub: Loriage / Review: “Review - Plex Dashboard for iOS” As much as i want to start using Jellyfin more, I’ll still probably have Plex around for a bit. GitHub: hritwikjohri / Void-for-jellyfin: “Void is an experimental native Android client for Jellyfin, built entirely with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Its goal is to offer a modern, minimal interface for browsing, streaming, and downloading media from a self-hosted Jellyfin server.” Jellyfin app to try out. GitHub: flohoss / gocron: “A go based task scheduler with GUI” Interesting project i might add to my list of things to try.

LoRa \ Meshtastic Since getting the Hacker Pager at DEFCON 33 this year, I’ve been digging more into LoRa & the Meshtastic project to have something new to play around with. Unfortunately (so far) there doesn’t seem to be many other nodes on Long Island, NY, but we’ll see if that changes. Hacker Gadgets: uConsole RTL-SDR/LoRa/GPS/RTC/USB Hub All-In-One Extension Board: If I want to turn my ClockworkPi uConsole into a device with LoRa, this hardware looks to do the job. Right now, I’ve been trying to keep an eye on things through Dozzle, but I don’t currently have any alerts or notifications if a container stops. iOS CFW Guide: Installing Dopamine I found an old iPad Air 2 of mine where the highest OS it can be upgraded to is 15.8.3. So to get some use out of it (pretty much plan to use it as a panel for the house or photo frame), i figured i would jailbreak it as well. I had to jump through a few hoops, but I think I’m in a good state now… TrollInstallerX isn’t compatible with the iPad Air 2 @ 15.8.3, so while I was able to use Sideloady to get it on there, all I saw was an “Unsupported” button instead of “Jailbreak”. So i used Sideloady to just directly load Dopamine, jailbreak through there & install Sileo & Zebra, installed TrollHelper to get TrollStore, then installed Dopamine from there… as I type this out I am fully expecting problems because of how many hoops I jumped through on this, but I guess we’ll find out in 7 days. As long as I can load my custom root certificate & visit internal sites, that’s all i really care about anyway. Miscellaneous Getting Docker API working on a new host: Needing the certificate – create the CA first: openssl genrsa -aes256 -out Docker_API-CA.key.pem 4096 openssl req -new -x509 -days 365 -key Docker_API-CA.key.pem -sha256 -out Docker_API-CA.cert.pem - Getting a client certificate: openssl genrsa -out $service-client.key.pem 4096 openssl req -subj '/CN=$service-client' -new -key $service-client.key.pem -out $service-client.csr echo extendedKeyUsage = clientAuth > extfile-$service-client.cnf openssl x509 -req -days 365 -sha256 -in $service-client.csr -CA Docker_API-CA.cert.pem -CAkey Docker_API-CA.key.pem \ -CAcreateserial -out $service-client.cert.pem -extfile extfile-$service-client.cnf - Running the docker API on :2376 & local socket. If running rootless, this file needs to be edited: "~/.config/systemd/user/docker.service". This will use the new TLS certificate created, run the API on port 2376, AND run the local socket as well. … Environment=DOCKERD_ROOTLESS_ROOTLESSKIT_FLAGS="-p 0.0.0.0:2376:2376/tcp" ExecStart=/usr/bin/dockerd-rootless.sh –tlsverify –tlscacert=/.docker/certs/Docker_API-CA.cert.pem –tlscert=/.docker/certs/Docker_API-Server-$hostname.cert.pem –tlskey=~/.docker/certs/Docker_API-Server-$hostname.key.pem -H unix:///run/user/1000/docker.sock -H tcp://127.0.0.1:2376 … ...
